“The annual U.S. Open Beer Competition returned to its normal schedule at its new event center in Oxford, Ohio following two years of pandemic-related schedule changes. Breweries sent more than 9,000 brews representing over 150 styles of beer to be judged, along with home brews that have medaled at the 2021 American Homebrew Association’s national competition.”

Desperate Times Brewery earned a Bronze Medal in the Munchner Dunkel Category for their DTB Dunkle and a Silver Medal in the Strong Scottish Ale Category for Wee Heavy Scottish Ale.

“Breweries from Antioquia, Columbia to Columbia, South Carolina sent more than 8000 beers representing over 140 different styles to the 2021 U.S. Open Beer Championship. Today, the U.S. Open Beer Championship announces the medal winners and Grand National Champion.

Also due to the COVID-19 pandemic, judging was held in both the U.S. and Canada. The main U.S. judging was held at the new U.S. Open Event Center in Oxford, Ohio. The U.S. Open became the first beer competition to be held in its own venue which is a 6000 square foot Amish pole barn located on a small farm.

Judging in the U.S. Open Beer Championships is blind; judges know only the categories, not the names or locations of beers being judged.”

The award-winning Desperate Times Brewery earned a Bronze Medal in the Ale Category for their Belgian Pale Ale.

“Breweries from Luxembourg to Louisiana sent in more than 6,000 beers representing over 140 different styles for the 2020 U.S. Open Beer Championship. This competition is the only one to include beers from professional breweries and beers from gold medal winners from the National AHA Homebrew Competition.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, judging was held in both the U.S. and Canada, at locations including Atlanta, GA; Oxford, Ohio; and Welland, Ontario. Judging in the U.S. Open Beer Championships is blind; judges know only the categories, not the names or locations of beers being judged.”

The award-winning Desperate Times Brewery earned a Gold Medal in the Lager Category for their Black Forest Schwarzbier.

“Cumberland County’s beverage scene has exploded in recent years. Breweries, in particular, are doing quite well, with the county ranking number 10 in the state for the number of breweries, according to the “Breweries in Pennsylvania” website. Many of these establishments work as hard on their food as they do on their beer and therefore should be taken into consideration when making dinner plans.

Desperate Times Brewery is one such establishment. The business at 1201 Carlisle Springs Road in Carlisle offers a German-inspired menu, designed to complement its award-winning beer.”
